One of the most common and widespread varieties which is resistant to both Spring frosts and drought.
The vigorous bushes are very high yielding with the branches often bending under heavy crops of fruit. Ripening starts late July / August. The light blue berries are large, firm and gathered in clusters. Commercially Bluecrop is regarded as one of the the best varieties.
Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
- Harvest from late July.
- Suitable for both open ground or container growing.
- For open ground planting plant 4 - 5 feet (1.2 - 1.5 metres) apart.
- Ericaceous, so will require soil or compost of an acidic nature.
- Self Fertile - though to ensure good pollination, plant with one or two other Blueberries - ideally different varieties.
