Autumn Is Upon Us!

A welcome cold snap at the end of October has meant leaf fall is a little earlier this year, meaning we're actually able to get out and start lifting fruit and hedging subjects from the open ground - so this year we're early for a change! But that is how we work, we work with nature!

So now is the time to plan your Autumn and Winter plantings. The sooner your plants are ordered the sooner you will have them and be able to get them in; another job done before Winter really kicks in!

For many (including a certain gardening program and a magazine or two), Autumn is thought of as the 'end of the gardening season' but in reality it isn't - its just a time when we change what we are eating fresh from the garden. Surely your first Parsnip or Jerusalem Artichoke from the garden is just as exciting as the first Asparagus or Sweetcorn? Of course, if the supermarkets had it all their way that joy would have long gone - with their policies of all year round availability of everything!

So, in the gardening calendar things may slow down a little bit just now - but its also time to plan for the new year ahead. Without wishing the year away, it wont be too long until Christmas Day afternoon - the traditional time for sowing onions. So relax a little, but not too much!

Be sure to follow all our antics at the nursery on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram for daily updates and general banter posted with a grin.
