Hedging plants needn't be boring and plain - make your living hedge into a functional but stylish garden spectacle with our hedging plant selection.
We have something for everyone, whether you're looking for a productive hedge to complement your kitchen garden, a wildlife-friendly hedging mix, or perhaps want a barrier that doesn't detract from your planting scheme. More...
Hedges have lots of different functions – you would never have thought that they could be so useful! Typically, hedges are planted because they are arguably more attractive than standard fencing, but also have the added benefit of filtering the wind, rather than creating a solid barrier that causes wind turbulence and damage. Once a hedge is planted, unlike fence panels, it rarely needs replacing after heavy winds!
Aside from being useful as an attractive barrier or screen, there are so many more uses for hedges and hedging plants.
Hedging can actually be a (quite literally) fruitful and bountiful source of food, with several of our hedges - including Cherry Plum, Colourama and Trailblazer - providing tasty fruits that can be used in jams, jellies and cordials. But it's not just their fruits that make hedging plants an attractive option – some varieties such as our Mammoth Miscanthus and Whispering Willows can also produce canes that can be used around the garden, as plant supports, bean poles and more!
When it comes to hedging, don't be afraid to think outside the box. For those looking for the 'wow' factor, why not take a look at our Ballerina Fuchsia hedging plants?
And for those keen to encourage and sustain a wildlife-friendly garden whilst preserving our English heritage, there's the Victoriana Conservation Hedge, a mix of traditional and native hedging plants that will help all manner of wildlife, from hedgehogs, dormice, insects and nesting birds, to thrive all year round.
