This is effectively the yellow cousin of the classic red cayenne pepper.

4-5" (10-13 cm) long fruits start off bright green before maturing to a golden yellow. Whether used fresh or dried, this bright yellow colour really cheers up any dish these chillies are used in! We love to dice them finely and add to a simple tomato sauce - where the colour contrast look fantastic, and the taste is simply sublime.

From our experience these are just a little bit hotter than a normal red cayenne, which gives them a really satisfying punch. Add to this the underlying fruity citrus flavour and this soon becomes a 'must grow' variety!

The fruits also dry well, keeping the majority of their colour, which makes them perfect for brightly coloured chilli powders, or string them with red cayennes for lovely multicoloured ristas.

The plant itself will grow to around 3 feet (90 cm) tall with a spread of around of 2 feet (60 cm) - though if bearing a heavy crop extra support may be required to stop the branches collapsing to the sides and the plant becoming top heavy!

  • Origin: USA
  • Heat: Hot - approximately 40,000 SHUs.
