Description
These Chrysanthemums have a subtle perfume all of their own, and are therefore often frequented by lovely butterflies on the wing. These are easy to grow and do not require complicated disbudding since they are what are termed as spray flowers - so popular nowadays with flower arrangers and florists.
Your Grandma and Great Grandma grew these (or could have done). A lovely colour selection that includes bright yellow, pink, tangerine, cream, white, crimson and intermediate pastel shades. We have grown and supplied this lovely plant since 1964.
Depending on the growing Season flowering can commence in July and if they are not cut back by October frosts flowering can continue up until Christmas outdoors.
Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
- Grow to approximately 2 feet (60 cm)high.
- Thrive in an open position and a deep rich soil.
- Plant 18" (45 cm) apart.
- Edible flowers and leaves.
- For Extra Special Results
- After planting leave to grow about 9" (23 cm) taller than when you received the plants then pinch out the tip (the growing point) of the plant.
- This will encourage 'lateral breaks' or side shoots to develop.
- When these are about 9" (23 cm) long pinch the tops out again!
- In turn these will form new shoots and in consequence the delightful flowers.
- Cut off flowers when faded or 'spent'.
- It is not unusual for each plant to produce 150 - 200 blooms each year, and what a small price to pay for such worthwhile results!
