Description
Despite its traditional English sounding name, 'Suffolk Red' was actually bred in the US - with one of its parents originating in Russia and one from the Med!
From the same breeding program as 'Lakemont', 'Suffolk Red' produces open bunches of bright red fruits. The soft skins of this variety make the fruits almost melt in the mouth. With a gorgeously sweet and fruity flavour, the grapes are literally bursting with juice, making them not only perfect for eating but also for wine-making and juicing. As a side benefit, this grape vine also produces a good autumn show as its foliage colours to rich oranges and reds.
- Originally from USA.
- Parentage: Black Kishmish x ??
- Early-season fruit ripening.
- Winter wood ripening is good - so can be grown both outdoors or under protection (greenhouse, polytunnel or conservatory).
- Can be trained using either the cane replacement method or spur pruning.
- Self fertile.
- Whilst recognised as a seedless variety, very occasionally this variety may produce some seeded fruit.
