With its silver grey downy leaves and peppermint scent, Silver Mint is an unusual and highly ornamental addition to the herb garden and tends to be used more as an ornamental than a culinary variety.  It is native to Europe.

Silver mint has a spreading habit making it ideal as a ground-cover plant but it is also useful for culinary purposes.

In classical times, people also used mint to scent their bath water.

In Athens where every part of the body was perfumed with a different scent mint was used for the arms.

Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Hardy perennial.
  • Attractive downy leaves.
  • Reaches a height of 18" (45 cms).
  • Can be invasive but makes excellent ground cover.
  • Long mauve flower spikes.
  • Likes a sunny or partial shade position.
  • Culinary Uses
  • Can be used for mint sauce.
  • May be used in Indian chutneys.
