Do not plant out (without protection) until fear of frost has passed.
Supplied as a pot grown plant grown in a 7cm pot.
This Product is Available Now.A most attractive plant that has blue-green foliage consisting of smooth fine leaves held inrather flat sprays. It looks quite feathery and forms a good dome in the border or growing with old roses. There are yellow flowers in midsummer which complement the foliage. The plant has a curious, slightly acrid scent.
Rue has traditionally been called the herb of grace, or the herb of repentance.
Due to it's bitter taste whilst it was once used in the kitchen, it tends not to be so much today, that being said it is still used in the Ethiopian kitchens, as a flavouring to Grappa in Italy and in old world beers as flavouring and in some Mediterranean and Greek foods.
Excessive amounts of Rue can cause violent gastric pain and vomiting, it can also cause burn like blisters to the skin.
It is more commonly used as an ornamental plant and can form a nice hedge.
Thought to be protective, particularly against witches. It was also used by innkeepers who gave it to their customers to safeguard their journeys.
It is thought that cats don't like the smell of this plant and can therefore sometimes be used to deter them and in South India is can be found to repel snakes. Caterpillars on the other hand quite like it's taste, particularly the 'Papilio machaon'.
