Description
The classic 'English' cooking apple that can produce huge fruits of exceptional flavour. This really is one of those varieties that needs no description.
- Season of use October-February.
- First introduced in 1809, Nottinghamshire, UK.
- Self-sterile / triploid - requires a pollinator (another apple) - and will not itself pollinate other apples.
- Grown on M26 rootstock for an ultimate (unpruned) height of 8-12 feet (2.4-3.65 metres) but can easily be kept at a height of 6-8ft (1.8-2.4m).
Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
Recommended by the RHS to assist in encouraging bats into the garden as the flowers are likely to attract moths and other night-flying insects which bats love to eat!
