Description

The Gala apple is medium-sized fruit with a mild and sweet flavour and a crisp, crunchy texture; it has an orange/yellow/red striped skin, and white to cream flesh.

Whilst these apples store well the flavour decreases with age and are best eaten straight from the tree in October.

The blosson is a pretty white with a pink tinge.

Gala was produced by J H Kidd in approximately 1960 in New Zealand and named in 1965.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

Recommended by the RHS to assist in encouraging bats into the garden as the flowers are likely to attract moths and other night-flying insects which bats love to eat!
