Our Feedback
I ordered plants on the internet from four differnt companies, one of them being yours. Well done - your plants came first, were the best packaged and more importantly were in excellent condition. The others, some from big name brands were late and half dead. I know where I shall be ordering from again. Thank You

Description

Here is a fairly new variety of the old-fashioned alternative to green sprouts that has a distinct nutty flavour, better than any other sprout.

With a taste sweet enough to be used raw in salads, these sprouts are also lovely steamed in the conventional way. And of course they have the added interest of being crimson red in colour, cheering up any meal.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects if allowed to 'go over' and flower (so if you have room leave any plants in that have gone too far rather than pulling them out straight away).

  • Sow April to May thinly in rows 6" (15 cm) apart, or sow into trays or modules. Sow ¾" (2 cm) deep.
  • Set out when large enough 2 feet (60 cm) by 2 feet (60 cm) apart.
  • Harvest mid September - April.

Top Tips

  • Plant firmly, and in windy areas consider staking.
  • Protect from pigeons - they love Brassicas (so do partridges)
  • Take precautions against the dreaded Cabbage White butterfly - inspect your crop regularly, spray with our BioFriend Plant Defence or use a physical barrier such as insect netting.
  • Harvest from the bottom of the plant upwards.
  • Sprouts harvested after frosts will have a better flavour than those harvested before.
