Description

A lovely perennial plant producing small, fragrant pinky/purple flowers with green leaves and purple stems. Holy Basil should not be confused with 'normal' sweet basil but is well worth growing. It has a gorgeous scent and flavour and is commonly used in Thai cooking.

Often grown by people following the Hindu religion as it is a sacred plant.

Is said to have many herbal benefits and is used in Ayurvedic medicine where is it said to be the 'elixir of life'.

Also known as Tulasi or Tulsi.

  • Short-lived perennial.
  • Frost tender.
  • Reaches 12" - 24" (30 - 60 cm) tall.
  • Sow at 20°C late spring / summer time.
  • Lightly cover seed.
  • Ensure well drained soil.
  • Germination can take approximately 2 weeks.
  • Loves a sunny position.
