Description

Golden purslane has lovely yellow leaves and is delicious in salad when picked young, but can also be stir-fried and pickled.

This golden variety is less hardy than the green but the flavour is better and full of antioxidants.

Often used in French cuisine.

The plants are thought to have powers of happiness, luck, love and sleep, which we think sounds like a perfect combination to us!

  • Half-hardy annual.
  • Can reaches 18" (45 cm) high.
  • Likes a sunny, sheltered position.
  • Prefers well drained, rich soil.
  • Has small yellow flowers and yellow leaves.
  • For a constant supply, sow continuously each month from spring until midsummer.
  • Sow in rows 12" (30 cm) apart and thin seedlings to 4-6" (10-15 cm) apart.
  • Water well.
  • Harvest 6-8 weeks later.
  • Can be grown in pots.
  • Culinary Uses.
  • You can pickle the leaves.
  • Delicious in salads.
  • Used in oriental and French cooking.
  • Medicinal Uses.
  • Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants.
  • Juice can be used to help dry coughs and shortness of breathe.
