Root vegetables encompasses a large selection of vegetables, including carrots, parsnips, salsify, radishes, celeriac and turnips, to name but a few.
The sheer variety of flavours that can be enjoyed from root vegetables is immense, and these versatile vegetables are often extremely easy to grow at home. More...
Our Root Vegetables seed category is home to some perpetual 'grow your own' favourites, including carrot seeds and parsnip seeds, those staples of many a good hearty British home-cooked meal. These seasonal vegetables are relatively easy to grow if you give them a good start - moist but free-draining soil, a sunny position and protection for vulnerable seedlings - and our listings are home to some of the best-tasting root vegetable varieties currently available.
Many of our root vegetables can also be sown and grown in suitably sized pots and containers, so even enthusiastic gardeners who are a little short on space can enjoy a crop of carrots, parsnips, turnips, beetroot and more. In fact, some root vegetables such as radishes and beetroot can also be used as fast 'intercroppers', growing in spaces which other slow-growing veg such as parsnips are yet to occupy earlier in the season.
