Description

Originates from the hills of Catalonia and is one of the varieties used to make Cava (along with Macabeo and Xarel-lo). The fruits have a lovely blossom aroma and a flavour of green apples and /or white nectarines.

Parellada has good acidity and likes to grow at high altitudes where the temperatures are fresher and cooler, with longer growing seasons in Catalonia. In England we would recommend giving the vine frost protection, so grow in a greenhouse or polytunnel but this must be well ventilated during the summer as this vine does not like very hot temperatures.

Makes a great accompaniment to courgette flowers and goats cheese.

  • White fruit.
  • High-yielding.
  • Likes poor soil and cooler climates with long seasons.
  • Requires winter frost protection, so protected growing is recommended.
  • Origin of Catalonia.
  • Self fertile.
  • Fruits contain seeds.
