Our Feedback
I've just read your little thing about being organic or not on your website and I'd like to congratulate you on being such a breath of fresh air! I'm a keen gardener and also a geneticist and I get so frustrated with the way people who know nothing about things confuse matters by using scientific terms incorrectly. "Organic" is a prime example of this, and it's wonderful that there are still people out there who will not jump on the PC bandwagon and are willing to stand up and put something honest out there for all to see! You cannot imagine how impressed I am with you, congratulations and a big heartfelt "thank you"!

Our chilli pepper plants category is home to a wide selection of chilli peppers from all over the globe.
Our selection spans all aspects of the heat scale, including a choice of sweet and mild chilli peppers, milder chillies with a little kick, through to feisty, fiery hot chilli peppers with a definite sting in the tail! And as we grow all the varieties we sell - and have a tasting weekend every year (Challock Chilli Fest) we genuinely do know the heats - no surprises from us! More...
There was once a time when chillies were considered to be a somewhat 'alien' ingredient, only present in foreign dishes and only included as a party trick - to blow your head off with an intense jolt of heat! Of course, our national tastes have evolved and changed, and world food influences have firmly established themselves as part of our national cuisine. Chilli pepper plants are one such example of those once 'foreign foods' that we couldn't imagine cooking without now!
Despite being native to warmer climes such as the Mediterranean, South America, North Africa and Mexico, chilli peppers will actually grow quite happily in our milder British climate. Our plants are supplied to our customers as compost block-grown specimens that will need planting on into pots, containers or open ground in a sunny, warm and sheltered spot. The warmer the local climate, the better for your chilli pepper plants and the quicker you'll be able to get your chillies onto your plate!
Chilli pepper plants are often treated as annual plants, but did you know that they can actually can be grown as perennials too? If you're planning on keeping your chillies going from one season to the next, we thoroughly recommend keeping the plants as pot-grown specimens, so that they can be brought into a warm, well-ventilated environment once the frosts return in late autumn and early winter.
If you're planning on growing a chilli pepper plant from seed that you've collected from any of our plants, please be aware that they will cross-pollinate very readily so rarely come entirely true to type (but they can be fun all the same!)
