Description

This really is a lovely plant. Growing to around 12" (30 cm) tall, the thin grass like leaves terminate in a pretty blue flower - almost like a miniature Iris in appearance.

Each flower lasts, at best, a day (hence the name Dayflower) - but usually has started to shrivel by just after lunch. But as each stem has multiple flowering bracts the overall flowering season is very long. A really worthwhile addition to the garden and an excellent groundcover for the summer.

Come the winter they die right back to nothing - though will 'come back' the following spring from their tuberous roots.

  • Thrive in a moist but well-drained soil.
  • Prefer sun or partial shade.
  • For ground cover purposes plant 10" (25 cm) apart.
