Description

These traditional hardy border carnations are richly perfumed, unlike carnations you find in the florist or sold on garage forecourts which are often imported from Colombia as spray carnations.

These really are something special - as you will discover! Each plant grows into a robust clump from which you can take 'slips' or cuttings to increase stocks of your favourite colours. We first grew these in 1958 - long after the Victorians had discovered their worth. In the 1850's ten plants sold for 1 Guinea (about £80 in today's currency).

Can be grown in pots and moved into the greenhouse or sun room for late autumn and early spring flowering. We supply a lovely rich balanced colour selection that includes shades of pink, crimson-red, yellow, white, purple and intermediate shades and tints, and the traditional striped types not found in cultivation these days.

  • Flower June to September.
  • Grow to approximately 18" (45 cm) tall.
  • Thrive in full sun and a well drained soil.
  • Plant 10" (25 cm) apart.
  • Flowers are edible.
