Description

Know anyone who loves asparagus? Then this is a far more cost effective way of getting lots, although they will have to be a little patient. No-longer will the receiver have to have their asparagus flown half way round the world they can grow it in their own garden!

Asparagus is, despite what people think, an easy crop to plant, grow and look after, suntans are even the reward for light weeding!

Once this delicious Connovers Colossal asparagus has grown in the Spring and looks perfect you simply cut with the asparagus knife specially designed for the job. Lightly steamed or grilled it will be enjoyed by all, so make sure you get yourself a dinner invitation!

It couldn't be easier or more delicious!

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Plant out anytime of the year, weather permitting.
  • Plant out 9" (23 cm) or further apart in rows 18" (45 cm) apart.
  • Keep plants well watered in dry spells.
  • Do not cut (harvest) in the first year and do not be too greedy in the second year either.
  • Always harvest by cutting through stems with a sharp knife just below soil level, avoiding stems just emerging.
  • Cut down the dead 'fern' each Autumn and then mulch the bed with a thin layer of well rotted manure or similar.
