Let your plants grow unhindered and your fish swim free - contrary to popular belief Blanket Weed can be very beneficial to pond life and should not be entirely discouraged - ideally, if it is seen to cling to the edge of your pool, just below the water level, it provides an ideal spawning medium for fish to lay their eggs and for fry (the name used for baby fish) to forage and hide from their predator parents! Only when it grows so thick as to choke the pond and be impossible to remove by 'winding onto a stick' like spaghetti need you resort to the natural old fashioned remedy of Blanket Weed Eliminator (BWE).

Blanket Weed, so named as it grows like green cotton wool, occurs in three common forms - Rhizoclonium, Spirogyra and Cladophora. BWE used in accordance with the instructions will eliminate it!! BWE is compounded from two naturally occurring mineral salts - Magnesium and Copper - and actually provides a tonic for fish and does not harm other pond life. It is very important to calculate the correct volume of water in your pond and treat accordingly.

Blanket Weed usually only occurs in Summer and after treatment will decompose at the bottom of the pond to release beneficial nutrients to other pond plants.

• Each packet we supply will treat up to 1000 gallons (4550 litres).
• It does not 'go off' so can be kept indefinately.
• Within ten days the blanket weed will have disappeared if you calculated the water volume correctly in the first place.

• BWE can be used in conjunction with Bilo Technica. 
• There is a 10% error margin for knowing the volume of water in your pond, this is critical to failure or success.

• Method Of Use
• Use the whole packet and tip into a plastic pail. 
• Add ten pints (5.6 litres) of hot water. 
• This will make what is termed as ten pints of dissolved stock solution or concentrate. 
• Ten pints equals ten parts of the 1000 gallon (4550 litres) pack. Put simply each pint will treat one hundred gallons of pond water. For example a pond of 500 gallons (2275 litres) you use no more than 5 pints (2.8 litres) or a pond of 750 gallons (3412 litres) 7½ pints(4.2 litres) of stock solution.
• To Use Your Stock Solution
• Take a 2 gallon (9 litres) water can and add up to 2 pints (1.1 litre), according to the size of your pond, of the required stock solution of BWE. 
• Now fill the water can with cold water. 
• Simply trickle your full can round the edge of the pond and repeat until you use all of the correct amount of stock solution you have measured out for your volume of pond water. 
• Ideally do this late evening, at dusk.  
• Within seven to ten days, if you have calculated the volume correctly, all Blanket Weed will have melted away like snow does after temperature rise. It will become harmless silt at the bottom of the pond that makes a good rooting medium for aquatic plants and proliferation of small pond creatures on which fish feed. 
• It’s harmless.
• A Word Of Caution
• BWE must be treated with the same respect and used only according to the gallonage of your pond. Do NOT chuck it all in irrespective of water volume. There is a safety margin of a round 10-15% that would have no harm on aquatic life or plants. If you use too strong a solution this could damage water plants and prove injurious to fish.
• Will Blanket Weed come back? Yes, sometimes birds introduce it to your pond if they have visited another pond with blanket weed or if your pond is overstocked with fish or you have too little plant life and you heavily feed your fish.  If your pond is well planted with a variety of water plants and marginals this will support the fish in your pond without any feeding as the water becomes charged with microscopic animal life (infusoria) and aquatic creatures all of high protein; our fish in our large show pond have never been fed. Who feeds the fish in the rivers, streams, lakes or the sea? Much of the fish food you buy consists of maize, gluten and starch products - this is not food for fish, it is protein they need - look at the analysis! Feed this to your fish and the waste passing through the fish decomposes at the bottom of the pond; amonifying bacteria converts this to nitrite, thence nitrate and insufficient plants - hey presto Blanket Weed. In its common algae form this is known as Clodophora, Rhizoclonium, Spirogyra. Algae come in various guises and are the very rudiment of life on earth itself tens of millions of years old. Fill a clean jam jar with water stand it in a sunny spot within two weeks it will turn green.  
• BWE is a safe proven method and dare we say as many customers have told us is the only product they have found that works.
• BWE acts as a tonic to aid the digestive system of all pond fish too.  
• What contributes to producing Blanket Weed? The U.V Filter systems do encourage the production of Blanket Weed we advise to discontinue the use of Ultra Violet light tubes. You can continue to run your filter, ideally a sand filter is best that can be backwashed.
