Our Feedback
Placed my first order with you last week and must say I could not be more pleased with your service. I received an e-mail confirming my order and a further e-mail to let me know when my order had been dispatched, I was amazed when my order arrived the day after when I was expecting 3 to 5 days. The plants arrived very well packed and protected and were in excellent condition and a good size that did not need growing on. The plants have been in the ground for nearly a week and are looking strong and healthy. I will certainly be using you again. Well done on an excellent service. Best Wishes

Description

A delicious, extremely sweet, non-bitter kale which grows well even in cold temperatures and never gets too big. It does not require support and is perfect for growing in containers.

Left to its own devices it will grow to around 2 feet (60 cm) tall with a similar spread - though it takes well to being harvested as a cut-and-come-again crop. Open pollinated and has a good cold tolerance.

Use the young leaves raw in salads, steam or stir fry.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects if allowed to 'go over' and flower (so if you have room leave any plants in that have gone too far rather than pulling them out straight away).

  • Plant out 2 feet (60 cm) apart in rows 2 feet (60 cm) - unless you are planning to grow as a cut-and-come-again crop in which case you can plant as close as 4" (10 cm) apart in the row.
  • Harvest late autumn-early spring.
  • Will tolerate light shade.
  • Top Tips
  • Kale is staggeringly hardy, withstanding temperatures as low as 5F (-15C) so can be left in the ground all winter long.
  • Protect from pigeons - pigeons love Brassicas (so do pPartridges)
  • Take precautions against the dreaded Cabbage White Butterfly - inspect your crop regularly, spray with our BioFriend Plant Defence or use a physical barrier such as insect netting.
