Description
Stunningly beautiful. Near black fully double flowers rise on tall stems. And after the flower the seed heads form which look similarly wonderful.
As a cut flower they will last at best 24 hours - so unless it's a really special occasion this is a flower to enjoy in the garden! The seed pods will, of course, last indefinitely so can be used in dried flower arrangements.
Plant en masse for a truly stunning display.
Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
- Flowers June - August.
- Grows to around 2-3 feet (60 - 90 cm) tall.
- Plant 14" apart.
- Thrives in full sun.
- Prefers well drained soils - is particularly good on poorer soils.
- Hardy annual though can prove tender in very wet winters.
- Provided they are grown away from other poppies they will set seed quite true to type.
