Description

A really bright and cheerful, some would say simple, flower.

A relative of the common corn field poppy, the red/pink flowers have a distinctive black blotch at the base of each petal which makes them look like the spots on a ladybird.

Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Flower June - August.
  • Grow to around 18" (45 cm) tall.
  • Thrive in full sun.
  • Prefer well drained soils - and particularly good on poorer soils.
  • Hardy annual though can prove tender in very wet winters.
  • Provided they are grown away from other poppies they will set seed quite true to type.
