Description

Scabiosa caucasica is thought to have arrived in Britain in 1803 where it went to George Loddiges a Hackney nurseryman. It has been developed from there.

This variety produces delicate, large flowers, some of which are doubles others single with almost 'frilly edges'. The mix of colours is a stunning spread of blues, violets and white which will really brighten your garden during the summer months.

The bees and pollinating insects just love them, as we are sure you will too. They are exceptionally attractive and make a really good cut flower.

These plants are not fans of long, wet winters (not sure who is!) or hot, humid summers, and it is recommended that they are planted into well drained soil (or over the winter add some grit to the surface to aid drainage).

It is recommended that you deadhead these plants to encourage them to continue flowering. If the flowers are left they will self-seed.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Perennial.
  • Hardy (to approximately -18C / 0F).
  • Prefers a sunny position
  • Likes well-drained soil.
  • Will reach approximately 2 feet (60 cm) tall.
  • Flower June to September.
  • Plant 8" - 12" (20 - 30cm) apart.

  • Other Uses
  • Excellent cut flower.
