Description

This plant originates from South Africa and is also known as Cape pondweed, Waterblommetjie or Vleikos.

It is an excellent complementary plant to water lilies as they flower at different times.

This deep-rooted plant will provide good leaf surface cover affording both an element of shade and water filtration in the summer to your pond or water garden.

It produces curious white flowers that are strongly perfumed especially of an evening.

  • Half-hardy (will survive most winters in your pond, but not if the weather is severe).
  • Likes a sunny position.
  • Grows in water 6" (15 cm) to 2 feet (60 cm) deep.
  • Small white, vanilla scented flower.
  • Will tolerate slow-moving water.
  • A lovely complement to water lilies.
  • Flowers March to July and September to December, although can be a little unpredictable! Does not flower in mid-summer.
  • Edible flowers (a delicacy in Germany).
