Erica carnea 'Ann Sparkes'

A delightful heath with orange foliage tipped bronze in summer, with purple flowers. Good ground cover and easy to grow. Reaches 4" (15 cm) high.

Description

A low-growing/spreading evergreen shrub with orange foliage and bright bronze tips in spring. Has urn-like rose pink flower which darken to purply pink in late winter. FLowers February-May.

Good for an attractive ground cover (plant approximately 8" (20 cm) apart).

Named after the sister-in-laws of J W Sparkes who introduced this variety in 1964 at Beechwood Nursery in Worcestershire.

  • Reaches 4" (15 cm) tall.
  • Spread of 10" (25 cm) wide.
  • Flowers February to May.
  • Prefers an acid soil/ericaceous compost but will grow in neutral soil.
  • Likes free-draining soil in a sunny position.

Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
