Description

A lovely evergreen Winter Heath, Loughrigg has dark green foliage shaded with bronze in Winter, and clusters of rose pink to purple bell like flowers from January to April and is fairly vigorous.

Good groundcover plant and can be a nice addition to a rockery.

Thought that it may be a seedling of 'Vivellii' found by G Hayes of Grasmere, Cumbria. It was introduced in 1948 by Robert Hayes. It was named after one of the fells in the Lake District between Grasmere and Ambleside.

Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Hardy.
  • Evergreen.
  • Reaches 4-6" (10-15 cm) tall.
  • Spread 18 - 24" (45 - 60 cm) wide.
  • Likes a full sun position but will tolerate some shade.
  • Will grow in lime to acidic soil but doesn't like compacted ground.
  • Like a chalky,  free-draining soil.
  • Flowers January-April.
