A delicious herb which can have so many culinary benefits.

A ready supply of garlic flavoured leaves as a perennial. Not as pungent in flavour as garlic cloves and needs to be cut regularly.

Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Hardy perennial.
  • Evergreen in most climates, but can die back in harsh Winters.
  • Flat leaves.
  • Mild garlic / onion flavour.
  • White flowers June to August.
  • Likes a sunny position but will tolerate shade.
  • Likes rich, moist but well drained soil. Will tolerate poorer soils.
  • Remove flowers for best flavour, but flowers can be used in salads.
  • Sow in Spring.
  • Transplant to 6" (15 cm) apart.
  • Keep well watered.
  • Split / divide every 3 -4 years in Spring.
  • Can be grown outdoors or in.
  • Usually reach 12-24" (30 - 60 cm) tall.
  • Always leave 2" (5 cm) for best re-growth.
  • Culinary Uses.
  • Flowers are lovely in salad!
  • Leaves can be used in salad, omelettes, sandwiches, cream cheese and so much more!
  • Medicinal Uses.
  • Contain mild antibiotics and some iron.
  • Great source of Vitamin C.
  • Sometimes used as an antibiotic.
  • Can improve your digestion and help with intestinal problems.
  • Sometimes be used to cleanse blood, reduce blood pressure and clear catarrh.
  • Can be used to protection against colds, worms, dysentery and typhoid.
  • Other Uses.
  • Can help control leaf curl for peach trees, if planted near by.
  • Can improve the scent of roses if planted near them.
  • If made into a spray and used to help prevent potato blight.
