Our Feedback
I've just read your little thing about being organic or not on your website and I'd like to congratulate you on being such a breath of fresh air! I'm a keen gardener and also a geneticist and I get so frustrated with the way people who know nothing about things confuse matters by using scientific terms incorrectly. "Organic" is a prime example of this, and it's wonderful that there are still people out there who will not jump on the PC bandwagon and are willing to stand up and put something honest out there for all to see! You cannot imagine how impressed I am with you, congratulations and a big heartfelt "thank you"!

Pollinator Friendly

A delicious, extremely sweet, non bitter kale which grows well even in cold temperatures and never gets too big and therefore does not require support and is perfect for growing in containers.

Left to its own devices it will grow to around 2 feet (60 cm) tall with a similar spread - though it takes well to being harvested as a cut and come again crop. Open pollinated and has a good cold tolerance.

Use the young leaves raw in salads, steam or stir fry.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects if allowed to 'go over' and flower (so if you have room leave any plants in that have gone too far rather than pulling them out straight away).

  • Plant out 2 feet (60 cm) apart in rows 2 feet (60 cm) - unless you are planning to grow as a cut and come again crop in which case you can plant as close as 4" (10 cm) apart in the row.
  • Harvest late Autumn - early Spring.
  • Will tolerate light shade.
  • Top Tips
  • Kale is staggeringly hardy, withstanding temperatures as low as 5F (-15C) so can be left in the ground all Winter long.
  • Protect from Pigeons - Pigeons love Brassicas (so do Partridges)
  • Take precautions against the dreaded Cabbage White Butterfly - inspect your crop regularly, spray with our BioFriend Plant Defence or use a physical barrier such as insect netting.
Available from approximately late March / early April 2019
