Our Feedback
Hi I just wanted to say that this is an excellent site. I ordered seeds (veggies) and organic vegetable growing guide book and all I can say is that the service has been absolutely fantastic. Most seeds are sown and already starting to sprout. The Kitchen Garden leaflet is a fantastic idea. I have copied this and have one in the greenhouse and a spare in the house. I will definately be ordering from you again. Thanks again for everything

Description

Fenugreek is a seed that is sprouted to add extra spice to your food.  The sprouts are very fragrant and have a curry flavour to them. They can either be harvested when they are small, about ½" (1.5 cm), for a stronger, hotter flavour or left to mature to up to 3" (7 cm) for a milder flavour.  They can be a good addition to salads as well as cooked dishes (often Indian).

These sprouting seeds are super nutritious, being high in Vitamin C, potassium, iron, alkaloids, fibres, niacin, polysaccharide, amino acids, anti-oxidants and diosgenin (which has estrogen like properties so is good for women).

Research has suggested that those suffering from diabetes may benefit from eating Fenugreek as it is thought to stimulate insulin production (but please speak to your doctor) and it can lower cholesterol levels, increase libido and sexual performance.  It can also be helpful in combating the signs of aging due to the rich source of antioxidants helping to repair damaged cells, reducing wrinkles and can help prevent hair lose, dandruff and dull hair.

Fenugreek can also help to relieve the symptoms of period pains and menopause as well as induce childbirth (in limited portions) as it stimulates the contractions and reduces labour pains - eating too much can be harmful during pregnancy so please speak to your doctor.  It also helps stimulate milk production for babies.

For sprouting you need to cover the seeds with cool water and rinse them at least twice daily (you may find this easier in a jam jar with a piece of cloth or cheesecloth over the top, sealed with an elastic band, do not cling film as they need ventilation, do not lay the seeds thick on top of each other as they will rot). Keep the seeds out of direct sunlight but at room temperature.

Crop to harvest usually takes approximately 6 days (from ½-3" tall). To entend their life when they are ready keep them in your fridge.
